Southsea charity No More Durty Water is throwing a huge fundraising party at The Wedgewood Rooms in memory of its founder Paul Keeler aka DJ Monkey P, this Saturday 17 May. Portsmouth, Hampshire 11 May 2025 The event, titled Durty Sound System - The Final Jam, will see the crème de la crème of the Portsmouth DJ community pulling together one last time in commemoration of 10 years since the sad loss of Monkey P, and to raise money for clean water projects in Africa and Asia. Durty SoundSystem was Paul's sonic creation, representing a collective of DJ's playing at the numerous fundraising events he arranged across the city and beyond. Then as now, every DJ offered their services for free to maximise the income for the charity, which has funded 30 permanent sources of clean water in areas of acute water poverty since 2011. No More Durty Water works with experienced partners such as Watercause Africa in Uganda to build protected springs and rainwater harvesters providing low cost, long term, sustainable and reliable sources of clean water for communities in desperate need. Paul would no doubt approve of the stellar line-up of DJ's from across the musical spectrum, all of which played alongside Paul at his various club nights and events such as Durty 45, Grapevine, Jus Jus and Bring The Noize. Each had their own musical connection and friendship with Paul, and No More Durty Water invites everyone to come together to remember a remarkable man in the way he would have wanted - on the dancefloor. Headlining the main room of The Wedgewood Rooms is a clash of DJ titans, as Funk Klub and Mark James from Soul 45 faceoff over the decks. Expect a battle of bad-ass funk versus the grooviest soul, with your dancing feet the only winners. In close support you'll find Fly Mic and Damon Sirena bringing the party big-time, both legends with Monkeylove Stunt Team and a long history of local nights such as the Six Million Dollar Man Club and Grapevine back in the day. Uncle Al and Gentle Bren from The Go Off will whip up a storm of hip-hop beats, breaks and garage, while Chas & Dave aka Charlie Waddington & David Morgan are known throughout Portsmouth for ramming the dancefloor at Pet Sounds amongst others. Kicking it all off we have the legendary Party Starter Jim Barber + DJ Spence, with their happy mix of dub, disco and durty basslines that has roots in Monkey P's Jus Jus and Durty 45 events. In the Edge of the Wedge Bar we go "Back to Paul's" recreating the eclectic chaos of his after-parties. Hosted by Jonty (Fishtank) you'll find the likes of Dharma 77, Sundae Girl (Southsea Old Guard), Mr Foot from Cocophono, Breezie, Leon Windsor & Mark Persaud (Civilisation of the Rough) plus the Nothing Fantastic duo (from Nothing Ventured Vinyl and The Joy Fantastic) throwing in everything including the kitchen sink into the ultimate soundclash mash-up. Claire Perry aka Sundae Girl commented on her forthcoming set: “Paul was a big part of my life as he was for so many others, and it’s great that we can all get together to celebrate CLEAN WATER IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT www.nomoredurtywater.org him and the charity he put so much time and energy into. Although it’s his tenth anniversary he will never be forgotten and I’m really looking forward to playing some of the music Paul and I had in common.” The future of the charity The Durty SoundSystem may be going out with a bang, but No More Durty Water continues to fund water projects worldwide with the funds raised. No More Durty Water is delighted to announce its new partnership with The Road From Karachi, a CIC (Community Interest Company) led by local community activist and author Nadia Huma Arab. Southsea based Nadia, who has written a successful cookbook with her mother Khalida Arab based on family recipes, has arranged funding for more than 100 water pumps in Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Africa. George Spence, Chairman of the Trustees of No More Durty Water, said of the new partnership: "We're delighted to be working with The Road From Karachi by helping to fund at least six further clean water projects in areas they have identified as being in acute need. The water pumps the CIC installs fit our own profile exactly, in that they are low cost to build and directly help communities facing water poverty. We are sure that our founder Paul would be happy that we're working with another Southsea based organisation with the same aims, and we look forward to developing a stronger partnership with The Road From Karachi in future." For now, it’s party time as No More Durty Water invites you to join an epic line-up of Southsea DJ's ramming the dancefloor at The Wedgewood Rooms this Saturday, 17th May, from 8pm.
