Life’s a Gamble: Penetration, The Invisible Girls and Other Stories - published by Omnibus Press on 14th September - is the autobiography of the iconic singer and songwriter Pauline Murray. The book recounts Pauline’s journey from the small mining village of Ferryhill, County Durham through to national recognition with Penetration and The Invisible Girls and her enduring influence as a key member of the original punk movement. Pauline explains, “I originally conceived the book to write my story for my children, and I may not have written it without some encouragement. But as someone who was involved in the early days of punk and from a small village in the north east rather than London, it’s my story of how our band used our energy, creativity and passion to help propel the punk movement forward in the late 1970s.” To support the publication of Life's A Gamble, Pauline is heading out on a nationwide tour of intimate 'An Evening With' events in September. Each night will include acoustic performances, live readings and a Q&A. Pauline will be signing copies of her book, which will be available to purchase on the night. Confirmed dates are:
Emerging onto the punk scene at just 18 years old and inspired by an early encounter with the Sex Pistols, Pauline tells how she played live alongside her punk peers, navigated the demands of the ‘70s music business, conquered the post-punk landscape with the Invisible Girls, opened her own music studios, and reformed Penetration in 2001. Illustrated with unseen photographs and drawing on notes from teenage diaries, interviews and archive material from her personal collection, Life’s A Gamble chronicles Pauline’s life as an innovative artist now widely acknowledged as a punk rock legend.
