Shoot the Duke are a 4 piece rhythm and blues band from Portsmouth. Influenced mostly by roots music. Their sound can be difficult to describe and includes elements from a range of different genres. From Blues to Folk, they bring in elements of dub, funk and punk to push and pull their sound in completely different directions.

Raspy vocals, honest lyrics, screaming harmonicas with a strong backbeat that will bring an incredibly energetic set that is not to be missed.

Founded in 2014 by frontman Tom and guitarist Neil, Shoot the Duke was originally an acoustic duo. The boys earned their stripes performing at empty venues and open mic nights around the country whilst painstakingly trying to write new music.  The boys ended up applying for a small time Battle of the Bands in a local pub and ended up winning recording time at Ford Lane Studios. . They recorded their first single “With You” which was well appreciated locally. The track gained air time on BBC radio 6 and other local radio stations. Through the release of this song they began attracting a small following and earned themselves a spot at Victorious Festival in 2015.

In 2016 the band took on a Cajon player and became a three piece, things started getting busier. They wrote a new song “Nicotine” which was a love song to cigarettes. This song became their anthem live, they began to realise their music had real potential when they started seeing strangers sing their lyrics back at them. The boys took part in a song writing competition at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth and came first place, winning them money and recording time at Strongroom Studios. They got themselves slots supporting Louis Berry, the Sheepdogs and the Hoosiers whilst also performing at great festivals such as Wickham festival, Victorious festival and Wonkydonk.  Shoot the Duke ended the year by releasing their debut EP which was played on BBC Introducing Solent amongst other stations. They also recorded a live lounge session for BBC Solent Introducing.

The boys kicked off 2017 by headlining Icebreaker Festival, the south's largest music festival, which was to be their last show as a three piece. They had to sneak people in through the back doors of the venue as it was over capacity. This became one of their career highlights but decided it was time to make things louder.

Bassist James and Drummer Rob joined the band mid-2017. The boys had real chemistry as soon as they started rehearsing, they re-worked old song and began writing new. They performed at multiple festivals all summer including Victorious festival, Wonkydonk and Camping be Cider Seaside They also recorded their new track “Strange Again” in November at The Ranch Productions.

The future looks bright and busy. With the release of their 2 new tracks coming this year. Slots at major festivals like Hanwell Hootie, Southcider and Boomtown Fair. Shoot the Duke are on the up.
