Brutalist Records & Calamity Cratediggers are proud to present...

Ban Summers is the soulful lo-fi indie project of Edward Perry (formerly of The Boy I Used To Be).
After being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, chronic illness led to him concentrating on recording many songs in his flat in Portsmouth using just his laptop, guitar, microphone and occasionally an amp. This culminated in the debut self-titled Ban Summers album, which is to be released on cassette and zine by Brutalist Records on 29th September.
The album touches on Edward’s experience of being ill in modern Britain and paints a grey and abrasive landscape that very much fits the Brutalist Records name. Mechanic drums reflect a city whirring in the background and his guitar and layered vocals hit with a wave of melancholy, occasionally claustrophobic in nature and sometimes sparse.
A few rare Ban Summers performances have seen him support Penelope Isles and Breathe Panel, with him dropping the guitar to instead use loops to recreate the album live in a more chronic illness friendly way. The release of the Ban Summers album will see this recreation at The Edge of the Wedge.
