BENTLEY RHYTHM ACE ( DJ SET)

Bentley Rhythm Ace (BRA) is a band formed in birmingham, england in the late 1990s, by former members of the band Pop Will Eat Itself, with guest appearances by Milf, a member of indie band EMF.

Their self-titled debut (‘Bentley Rhythm Ace’) was released in 1997 and spawned the hugely popular single ‘Bentley’s Gonna Sort You Out’. A second album, ‘For Your Ears Only’, was released in 2000 but was less popular. A further single ‘Madam, Your Carriage Awaits’ was released. The group also compiled a 2CD ‘FSUK’ compilation (FSUK 3 (Mixed by Bentley Rhythm Ace) (disc 1); FSUK 3 (Mixed by Bentley Rhythm Ace) (disc 2)).

The name likely refers to the Rhythm Ace line of analogue drum machines manufactured by Ace Tone, some of which were rebranded and distributed by Bentley Pianos in the uk.

The group epitomises the big beat era. Signed to skint records, they have enjoyed much commercial success with their music being used on television advertisements and with an enormous underground following.

The group have all but split, playing the occasional low-key DJ set and have released no further material since 2000, but we are deaply honoured to have one of their exclusive DJ sets at The Wedge.

DUTTY MOONSHINE

The sounds of the 1930's big band meets modern basslines and chunky beats!

Dutty Moonshine is the creation of Michael Rack and Alex Furley. Both have had years of experience mixing many genres from Hip-Hop to Breaks to Jungle and with a passion for the vaudeville arts the birth of Dutty Moonshine was inevitable.

KITTEN & THE HIP

One year ago, Ashley Slater met Kitten Quinn. Ashley was an ex pop star and Kitten was a beautiful and intelligent singer songwriter. They wrote songs together, they hung out, and they mischiefed. But mostly, they wrote songs together.color: In February, they were having a chat, and Kitten advised Ashley not to worry about something or other. ‘Don’t You Worry About That’ was born the next day. A demo was sent to Carl Hanaghan, head of A & R at HedKandi records in London.

Less than half an hour later, the phone rang at Kitten HQ, the deal was made, the record was signed and the ball of yarn started rolling.

The single is out in September and is already creating a significant noise on the Electro Swing scene. There have already been license and synch requests, and it’s not even out yet.

Live, they are a quartet, with Kitten singing and Ashley and two brass monkeys playing horns all on top of pumping backing tracks. Kitten is a natural onstage, at once mesmerising and seductive.

It’s a party with class, so don’t forget your ass!
